Why would certain people in my neighborhood stick up for a convicted child molester?

People have this crazy definition that a child molester will be dirty, unshaven and mildly retarded or just unlucky with adult women. My grandfather was a certified genius, well groomed and had many friends at work and his church. He molested my mother, every one my aunts and every one of my cousins. They know how to get people to like them and they still prefer children. I mean would you let a dirty retard baby-sit your kids?
