Hugging cute nurse?

When I was in the hospital there was this very pretty nurse. I was sick and very vulnerable and she was taking care of me. I gave her a hug, and she said, "awww." Later a friend told me that could be inappropriate. However since it was a harmless innocent hug I don't see the problem.
