Is highschool really like people say?

Ok so I was in Kmart and this lady asked me if I was in highschool yet.I said no and she was like 'ooo wee get ready,you are really pretty and guys are going to be all over you' then she told my mom to keep an eye out.plus on shows they show all these kids being tempted by drugs and everything.Is it all just hyped or true?
